Radio V, side B, track 6: “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones

Oh, The Rolling Stones, this was the first song I ever heard by you guys.  It’s one of those songs that makes you wonder “What was the world like before this song?”  Because it’s impossible to imagine that there was a time when this song didn’t exist.  Not only that, it’s clear by its awesomeness that this song HAS to exist.  It’s the kind of song that can almost get one to believe in a cosmic plan.  It’s the kind of song that is so woven into our collective consciousness that it transcends just being a song and becomes almost integral as air.

I did not think anything like this at the time, The Rolling Stones.  I believe I thought “Cool!  It’s that ‘Satisfaction’ song!”

“(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”

I can’t get no satisfaction
I can’t get no satisfaction
‘Cause I try
And I try
And I try
And I try
I can’t get no
I can’t get no

When I’m drivin’ in my car
And a man comes on the radio
He’s tellin’ me more and more
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination
I can’t get no
A’no, no, no
Hey, hey, hey
That’s what I say

I can’t get no satisfaction
I can’t get no satisfaction
‘Cause I try
And I try
And I try
And I try
I can’t get no
I can’t get no

When I’m watchin’ my TV
And a man comes on and tells me
How white my shirts can be
But he can’t be a man ’cause he doesn’t smoke
The same cigarettes as me
I can’t get no
A’no, no, no
Hey, hey, hey
That’s what I say

I can’t get no satisfaction
I can’t get no girl reaction
‘Cause I try
And I try
And I try
And I try
I can’t get no
I can’t get no

When I’m ridin’ ’round the world
And I’m doin’ this and I’m signin’ that
And I’m tryin’ to make some girl
Who tells me, “Baby, better come back maybe next week
‘Cause you see I’m on a losin’ streak”
I can’t get no
A’no, no, no
Hey, hey, hey
That’s what I say

I can’t get no
I can’t get no
I can’t get no
Satisfaction
No satisfaction
No satisfaction
