Radio XXXII, side B, track 11: “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by The Rolling Stones

Rolling Stones - SatisfactionOh, The Rolling Stones, it’s almost two years to the day since we last talked about this song.  Crazy how time flies, isn’t it?  The last time I wrote about you, I was only on my fifth tape.  I don’t know if I’d even gotten through the process of transferring all my tapes to mp3s.  Probably not.  There were a lot of tapes.  I wasn’t married yet.  We only had two dogs instead of three.  I was still eating meat.  A LOT of meat.  I hadn’t become addicted to Topo Chico yet.  “Breaking Bad” was still on.  So many things have changed, The Rolling Stones.  Including that I now know all the lyrics to this song.

Like that lyric “But he can’t be a man ’cause he doesn’t smoke the same cigarettes as me”?  I always thought it was “But he can’t be a man ’cause he doesn’t smoke six cigarettes a week”.  I never understood the significance of that.  I guessed that it meant that if he wanted to be a man, he should be smoking more than six cigarettes a week.  As someone who grew up around a lot of smokers, including a grandfather who also loved his Copenhagen chewing tobacco, six cigarettes a week did seem pretty paltry.

And that whole “I can’t get no girl reaction”?  I thought it was “I can’t get no girly action”.  Which is kinda the same thing, right?  Luckily, I never sang this song out loud to anyone who could hear me, but I guess I just confessed it directly to you, The Rolling Stones, so there’s that.

Anyway, it’s been a great couple of years, The Rolling Stones, and I’m looking forward to listening to some more of your music in the months and years ahead.

“(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”

I can’t get no

Satisfaction

I can’t get no

Satisfaction
‘Cause I try

And I try

And I try

And I try

I can’t get no

I can’t get no

When I’m
Drivin’ in my car

And a
Man comes on the radio

He’s tellin’ me more and more

About some useless information
Supposed ta
Fire my imagination

I can’t get no

A’no, no, no

Hey, hey, hey

That’s what I say

I can’t get no

Satisfaction

I can’t get no

Satisfaction
‘Cause I try

And I try

And I try

And I try

I can’t get no

I can’t get no

When I’m watchin’ my TV

And a
Man comes on and tells me

How white my shirts can be

But he
Can’t be a man ’cause he doesn’t smoke
The same cigarettes as me

I can’t get no

A’no, no, no

Hey, hey, hey

That’s what I say

I can’t get no

Satisfaction

I can’t get no

Girl reaction
‘Cause I try

And I try

And I try

And I try

I can’t get no

I can’t get no

When I’m
Ridin’ ’round the world

And I’m a’doin’ this and I’m signin’ that
And I’m tryin’ ta make some girl

Who tells me, “Baby, better come back
Maybe next week
‘Cause ya see I’m on
A losin’ streak”
I can’t get no

A’no, no, no

A’hey, hey, hey

That’s what I say

I can’t get no

I can’t get no

I can’t get no

Satisfaction

No satisfaction

No satisfaction

No satisfaction

I can’t get no

I’ve always thought he was saying “I can’t get no girl in action”. My whole life is a lie, haha.
