Radio XLVII, side A, track 1: “We’ll Be Together” by Sting

Sting - We'll Be TogetherOh, Sting, this is one of those songs that I don’t have very strong feelings about one way or another.  It’s a perfectly fine song, Sting.  I enjoy it.  I certainly don’t hate it.  It’s just not grabbing me like a lot of the other songs I recorded off the radio.

Having said all that, I remember every single word of this song, and I feel like I listened to this song a lot when I was a kid.  But I don’t remember if I just listened to this particular tape over and over or if it was on the radio a lot or if it was just everywhere so that I couldn’t escape it.  I really don’t know, Sting, but I do know that I haven’t forgotten it after all these years, which has to account for something, yes?  Sorry, Sting, I don’t feel like I’ve been very complimentary about this particular song, but of any musician I’ve featured on here, I figure you’re probably the most forgiving out of all of them.  You’re into Zen and stuff, right?

I do remember seeing an interview with you on I want to say “60 Minutes” with your wife where you guys were talking about tantric sex and 6-hour orgasms and stuff.  At the time, I didn’t really know what any of that meant (let’s be honest, I still don’t completely understand it), but it seemed like a 6-hour orgasm was pretty long, regardless of what it was.  Maybe I’m getting too old, but now that just sounds exhausting.  Honestly, even at my peak, that seemed a bit overzealous, and frankly, a little daunting.  Also, who’s got 6 hours for orgasms?  I guess if you’re a famous musician, you can take time out of your day for a 6-hour orgasm, but I’ve only got so much PTO saved up at work, and that mostly goes toward trips.  I can’t be wasting it trying to sustain an orgasm for half the day.  Unless the O in PTO stands for “Paid Time Orgasms”, then maybe I’d think about it, but pretty sure that’s not the case, and I’m not going to ask my HR rep for clarification.  Unless you’re willing to give me a job after I get fired for asking, Sting.  Which you probably won’t be, since you’re probably off having week-long orgasms (the interview I saw was a few decades ago, so I’m sure you’ve upped your game since then).

Anyway, Sting, I was not planning on spending this much time talking about orgasms today, so that’s a nice(?) surprise.  How about next time we see each other we don’t mention this post. . .

  1. Michael says:

I saw Sting in Concert in Chicago back in the late 80’s when I worked at the UIC Pavilion and this song was on the album he was promoting. I got the autograph of his Sax player, Branford Marsalis (he was the Tonight show band leader for a short time) I did see Sting during sound check eating an apple, I never did say anything to him though.
