Radio XLVIII, side B, track 1: “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr.

Ray Parker Jr. - GhostbustersOh, Ray Parker Jr., YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!  So many things make me happy about this track.  For one thing, I was able to record one of the best songs ever created by man that was the theme for one of the best movies ever made by man.  PLUS, it marks the beginning of another Monster Hits Weekend!  It’s been almost exactly two years since we last got to hear songs from one of my favorite radio weekends as a kid.  And this time out, KISD FM was giving out copies of “Nightmare On Elm Street 5” as well!  I have not seen “Nightmare On Elm Street 5”, Ray Parker, Jr.  I don’t think I’ve seen parts 2-4, either.  And even if I wouldn’t have gotten in trouble for calling long distance on our phone, I probably wouldn’t have called in to try to win a copy of the movie for the mere fact that I’m a huge wuss when it comes to scary movies.

Hell, Ray Parker, Jr., I remember when I went to see “Ghostbusters” at the theater (that’s how big this movie was, even little ol’ me got driven to the theater to see it), afterwards I slept over at my cousin’s house and as I was laying there in my sleeping bag, I started thinking about the movie and all the ghosts in it and I told my cousin I was starting to get scared, and you know what he did in his brilliance?  He recited the lyrics to this song, and told me to remind myself “I ain’t afraid’a no ghost.”  Which is what my mantra was for the rest of that night.  And it worked.  For that night, anyway.  When it comes down to it, I AM afraid’a those ghosts.  I go back and forth as to if I even think they’re real or not, but mostly I just try not to think about it.  Because if they are real, I’m not going to meet the hot one floating above Ray’s bed.  It’s going to be Gozer or the chick from the library.

I’m going to stop now, Ray Parker, Jr., because as I was writing all this, I was slammed with nostalgia overload (“Back off, man, I’m a scientist”. . .”Nice shootin’, Tex!”. . .”He slimed me”. . .) gaaaahhhh!  It’s too much awesome for me to handle!!!  Obviously I’m going to have to go watch “Ghostbusters” now, Ray Parker, Jr., so thanks for that.  And not being sarcastic when I say that, because one can never get too much “Ghostbusters”.  I love you, Ray Parker, Jr.
