Radio 51, side A, track 3: “What’s Love Got To Do With It” by Tina Turner, #88 on The Top 90 of the ’80s

Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With ItOh, Tina Turner, there haven’t been many of your songs on this blog, meaning there weren’t that many of your songs being played on my radio station when I was recording back in the day.  It doesn’t really make any sense, but it is what it is.  But now here you are, thank goodness, with one of my favoritest of all of your songs.  I must have been around 9 years old when this one first exploded all over the air waves, and frankly, I’m surprised this one wasn’t even higher on the countdown.  Listening to it again after so many years, I still have that same feeling I did when I was a prepubescent boy.  Your throaty sexiness. . .good lord, Tina Turner.  Ain’t nobody like you.  Maybe love is just a sweet old-fashioned notion, Tina Turner, but I love this song and I love you.

“What’s Love Got To Do With It”

You must understand, oh the touch of your hand makes my pulse react

That is only the thrill
Of boy meeting girl, opposites attract
It’s physical

Only logical

You must try to ignore
That it means more than that
Ohhhh
What’s love got ta do
Got ta do with it

What’s love
But a second-hand emotion

What’s love got ta do
Got ta do with it

Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

May seem to you that I’m acting confused when you’re close to me

If I tend to look dazed
I read it someplace
I’ve got cause to be

There’s a name for it

There’s a phrase that fits

But whatever the reason
Ya do it for me
Ohhhh
What’s love got ta do
Got ta do with it

What’s love
But a second-hand emotion

What’s love got ta do
Got ta do with it

Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken

Oooooooooooo

<awesome Tina Turner jam>

I’ve been taking on a new direction

But I have ta say

I’ve been thinking about my own protection
It scares me to feel this waaay

Ohhhh
What’s love got ta do
Got ta do with it

What’s love
But a second-hand emotion

What’s love got ta do
Got ta do with it

Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken
(What’s love) got ta do
Got ta do do with it

What’s love
But a sweet old-fashioned notion

What’s love got ta do
Got ta do with it

Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken
(What’s love)
Oooo, got ta do with it
(What’s love)

  1. Tina Turner is the best. One of my sorrows in life is that she no longer tours and I never got to see her live 😦
