Radio 51, side A, track 5: “Up Where We Belong” by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker, #85 on The Top 90 of the ’80s

Joe and Jennifer - Up Where We BelongOh, Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker, this countdown was proving to be a test to my sanity.  Moreso than usual, that is.  I already had to deal with the fact that I was recording some songs with static on the line (ironically, this track starts off with the DJ talking about how KISD FM is coming in loud and clear day and night), but now here comes your great song and they only play the last minute of it!  What the hell?!?!?  On top of that, the DJ’s saying that this is #85 on the countdown.  But the last song was #87.  Where the hell did #86 go?!?!?

This did not bode well, Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker.  We’re only a few songs in and already we’re having technical difficulties and missing songs.  An obsessive-compulsive teenager cannot work like this.  It’s stressful enough making sure that I’m capturing every single song off the radio without having to worry about the radio station itself working against me.  Don’t they realize now important this countdown is?!?!  Didn’t they know I’d be blogging about this in 30 years?!?!

Sorry about that, Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker.  And sorry that we didn’t get to hear all of this song.  But surely a song as great as this will show up on the radio again some day for me to record, right?

“Up Where We Belong”

But we climb a step
Every day

Love lift us up where we belong

Where the eagles cry

On a mountain high

Love lift us up where we belong

Far from the world below

Where the clear wind blow

Time goes by
Nooo time ta cry

Life’s you and I

Alive
Today

Love lift us up where we belong

Where the eagles cry

On a mountain high

Love lift us up where we belong

Far from the world we know

Where the clear winds blow

Love lift us up where we belong

Where the eagles cry

On a mountain high
