Radio 52, side A, track 1: “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard, #74 on The Top 90 of the ’80s

Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On MeOh, Def Leppard, can you believe we’ve already burned through one tape recording the Top 90 of the ’80s?  It’s not a surprise to me, since I was playing pretty conservatively with my cassette tapes since I didn’t want to miss a single song.  It’s also not a surprise to me that this song made it on to the countdown.  Hell, Def Leppard, the previous year this song was the third most popular song of the year, so obviously it’s going to make it onto a countdown of the best songs of the ’80s since it so clearly is.  Definitely a great song to kick off any new cassette.  And on top of all the regular excitement this countdown was bringing me, not only did this awesome song make it onto the countdown, but I got this one as a “pure song” to boot!!!  That’s fantastic, Def Leppard!  This was the fourth time I’d recorded this song off the radio, and the last time I’d record it during my initial radio-taping years, so what a great way to end my taping relationship with this song, on the most important night of the whole ’80s and capturing it in its entirety with nary a DJ to be heard!  I can’t believe we’ve almost made it through the first 20 songs, Def Leppard.  If songs like this are being featured, how amazing will the impending songs be?!?!?!

“Pour Some Sugar On Me”

Love me like a bomb, baby, come an’ get it on
Livin’ like a lover with a radar phone
Lookin’ like a tramp, like a video vamp
Demolition woman, can I be your man? (be your man)

Razzle-little, dazzle-little, flash a little light
Television lover, baby, go all night
Some time, any time, sugar me sweet
Little Miss Innocent, sugar me, yeah

Yeah

C’mon
Take a bottle
Shake it up
Break the bubble
Break it up

(Pour some sugar on me) Ooo, in the name of love
(Pour some sugar on me) C’mon, fire me up
(Pour your sugar on me) I can’t get enough
I’m hot
Sticky sweet
From my head
To my feet, yeah

Listen
Red light, yellow light, green light, go
Crazy little woman in a one-man show
Mirror queen, mannequin, rhythm of love
Sweet dream, saccharine, loosen up (loosen up)
A-loosen up

You gotta please a little, squeeze a little, tease a little more
Easy operator, come a-knockin’ on my door
Some time, any time, sugar me sweet
Little Miss Innocent, sugar me, yeah

Yeah
Give a l’il more

Take a bottle
Shake it up
Break the bubble
Break it up

(Pour some sugar on me) Ooo, in the name of love
(Pour some sugar on me) C’mon, fire me up
(Pour your sugar on me) Oh, I can’t get enough
I’m hot
Sticky sweet
From my head
To my feet, yeah

You got the peaches, I got the cream
Sweet ta taste (saccharine)
‘Cause I’m hot (hot), so hot (hot), sticky sweet
From my head (head, head)
To my feet

Do you take sugar?

One lump or two?

Take a bottle (take a bottle)
Shake it up (shake it up)
(Break the bubble) break it up (break it up)

(Pour some sugar on me) Ooo, in the name of love
(Pour some sugar on me) C’mon, fire me up
(Pour your sugar on me) Oh, I can’t get enough
(Pour some sugar on me) Ooo, in the name of love
(Pour some sugar on me) Come get it, come get it
(Pour your sugar on me) Ohhhhhhh
(Pour some sugar on me) Yeah, hey
Sugar me

  1. Love this track. It brings back some great memories of school discos, headbanging and chilling out with my friends
