Radio 52, side A, track 6: “Patience” by Guns N’ Roses, #69 on The Top 90 of the ’80s

Guns N' Roses - PatienceOh, Guns N’ Roses, so this was a big deal for me when I recorded this one.  For one thing, I hadn’t captured this one on my tapes yet, and this was a fairly new song.  For another, it showed up on the Top 90 of the ’80s!  Way to go, guys!  I was already a fan, of course, so I was very excited to see a newer band have a song that was considered one of the best of the decade, and a song that I wasn’t even that familiar with.  Frankly, Guns N’ Roses, I’d put “Welcome To The Jungle” or “Paradise City” over this one, but I don’t want to take anything away from this one, because it’s so damn great.  And it was the only song you guys had made that you could slow dance to.  Any song that could be added to the arsenal of songs to slow dance with a girl to was always much appreciated.  This was also a song more conducive to making out to compared to your other stuff.  I’m not saying that you couldn’t make out to “Welcome To The Jungle” or “Paradise City” and the like, but the kinda girls that would be into that were moving at a much faster and higher level than I was at this point in my life.  Actually, they’ve always been moving faster and higher than me.  ACTUALLY, pretty much all women are moving at a faster and higher level than me, my wife included.  And all that talk of making out was pretty moot at the time I was recording this song anyway, Guns N’ Roses.  I was 14, sitting in my pajamas recording music off the radio on New Year’s Eve, and I’d never even kissed a girl or even held a girl’s hand.  I didn’t have a driver’s license and I lived in the middle of nowhere and if I ever wanted to listen to this track again, I was going to have to fast forward through the first five songs to get to this one.  So yeah, Guns N’ Roses, I was quite familiar with patience.

“Patience”

One
Two
One, two, three, four

<awesome Guns N’ Roses jam/whistle>

Shed a tear ’cause I’m missin’ you

I’m still all right ta smile

Girl, I think aboutchoo every day now

Was a time when I wasn’t sure, but’cha
Set my mind at ease

There is no doubtchor in my heart now

Said woman, take it slow, it’ll work itself out fine

All we need is just a little patience

Said sugar, make it slow
And we’ll come together fine

All we need is just a little patience

(Patience)

Mmmmmmm, yeah

Sit here on the stairs, ’cause I’d
Rather be alone

If I can’t have you right now
I’ll wait, dear

Sometimes I get so tense, but I can’t speed up the time

Choo know love, there’s one more thing ta consider

Said woman, take it slow
And things will be just fine

You and I’ll just use a little patience

Said sugar, take the time, ’cause the lights’a shining bright

You and I’ve got what it takes to make it

We won’t fake it

Oh, I’ll never break it

‘Cause I can’t take it

<awesome Guns N’ Roses jam/whistle>

A little patience

Mmm yeah

Ooo yeah

Need a little patience
Yeeeeeah

Just a little patience
Yeeeeeah

Some more patience
I been walkin’ these streets at night (yeeeeeah)
Just tryin’ to get it right (could use some patience)
Hard ta see with so many around (yeeeeeah)
Know I don’t like bein’ stuck in the crowd (could use some patience)
And the streets don’t change, but baby the name (yeeeeah)
I ain’t got time for the game ’cause I needjoo (everybody have some patience)
Yeeeah yeah, but I needjoo (yeeeeeah)
Oooooo, I need you

Whoooa, I need you

Ohhhh, this tiiiiiime
