Radio 54, side B, track 5: “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” by Yes, #31 on The Top 90 of the ’80s

Yes - Owner Of A Lonely HeartOh, Yes, here’s yet another song that I would have known nothing about had it not been for “Weird Al”‘s version featured in his “Hooked On Polkas” medley.  That’s kinda all I’ve got to say on this one, Yes.  Besides the fact that as I listened to “Hooked On Polkas” again I realized just how many ’80s songs I knew nothing about besides their polka version.  I can’t believe how much I’ve been talking about polkas on here lately.  And while I knew how influential “Weird Al” was in my musical tastes (and my comedy tastes) growing up, I didn’t realize just how much of a gateway drug “Weird Al” was to “real” music.  I can’t say that this particular song blew me away when I finally heard your version of it, Yes, but just by way of being in a “Weird Al” tune AND that it was on the Top 90 of the ’80s countdown gave this one a lot more street cred for me.  Or in my case, I guess it was more farm cred.

“Owner Of A Lonely Heart”

<awesome Yes jam>

Move yaself

You always live ya life
Never thinking of the future

Prove yaself

You are the move you make
Take your chances win or loser

See yoself

You are the steps you take

You and you and that’s the only way

Shake
Shake yaself
You’re every move you make
So the story goes

Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than an owner of a broken heart

Owner of a lonely heeeeeeeart

Say you don’t want to chance it

You’ve been hurt so before

Watch it now

The eagle in the sky

How he dancin’ one and only

You
Lose yaself
No, not for pity’s sake
There’s no real reason to be lonely

Be yoself

Give your free will a chance
You got to want to succeed

Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than an owner of a broken heart

Owner of a lonely heeeeeeeart

Owner of a lonely heeeeeeeart

After my own indecision they confused me so (owner of a lonely heeeeart)
My love said never question your will at all

In the end you gotta go
Look before you leap (owner of a lonely heeeeart)
And don’t you hesitate at all, no no

Yow!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

<awesome Yes jam>

Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than an owner of a broken heart

Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than an owner of a broken heart

Owner of a lonely heeeeeeart

Owner of a lonely heeeeeeart

Sooner or later each conclusion will decide the lonely heart (owner of a lonely heeeeart)

It will excite, it will delight, it will give a better start (owner of a lonely heeeeart)
