Radio 55, side B, track 6: “Stuck With You” by Huey Lewis and The News, #18 on The Top 90 of the ’80s

Huey Lewis and The News - Stuck With YouOh, Huey Lewis and The News, about damn time there was a song by you guys on here.  I would have had a moment if this countdown hadn’t included one of your songs, since when you think about your music, you think about the ’80s.  At least I do.  While this was the first time I’d recorded this most excellent song off the radio, it wasn’t the first time I’d heard it.  I’d heard this song a lot, because “Fore!” was actually one of the few cassette tapes I owned that wasn’t a Sony tape full of songs off the radio.  And I listened to “Fore!” all the damn time.  In fact, even to this day, as soon as this song was over, in my head I was prepared to hear “Whole Lotta Lovin'”, since that’s what the next song was on your cassette.  Do you ever have that, Huey Lewis and The News, where you’ve listened to a tape or album or what-have-you so many times that when you hear one of the songs from it somewhere else, you’re mentally expecting the next song you hear to be the next song on the cassette?  It happens fairly frequently for me, especially on this blog.  If it’s a song from “Fore!” or Madonna’s “True Blue” or the “Top Gun” soundtrack, I’ve subconsciously got those track lists memorized.  Same thing for a lot of my radio tapes.  For example, I’ve listened to Radio I so many times over the years, that not only do I have the track lists memorized, but I also have what the DJs are going to say memorized, too.  And having a track list memorized can be a nice little bonding moment between two fans of an artist, but I guarantee you no one is impressed if you quote DJs from a track that was recorded off your local radio station several decades ago.  But that’s the life I’ve chosen for myself, Huey Lewis and The News, and I’m stuck with it.  Which means I’m stuck with you.  Which actually isn’t too bad a position to be in.

“Stuck With You”

<awesome Huey Lewis and The News jam>

We’ve had some fun

Yes, we’ve had our ups and downs

Been down that rocky road

But here we are, stiiill around

We thought about someone else

But neither one tooook the bait

We thought about breakin’ up

Now we know it’s much too late

We are booound byyy all the rest

Like the saaame phone number

All the same friends

And the same addreyess

Yes, it’s true (yes, it’s true)
I am happy to be stuck with you

Yes, it’s true (yes, it’s true)
I’m so happy to be stuck with you

‘Cause I can see (I can see)
That you’re happy to be stuck
With meeee
