Radio 57, side A, track 1: “I’m Down” by The Beatles

The Beatles - I'm DownOh, The Beatles, a new tape, a new year, and a new song!!!  Well, I mean, it’s new to my tapes, anyway.  It’s been almost a year to the day since we’ve had a tune by y’all on here, and that seems far too long.  BUT, I think we should just be thankful that I listened to the kind of radio station that threw in a Beatles jam betwixt all the brand new jams.  And maybe it’s ironic, but this song from nearly 30 years (and now 60 years) previous about a guy singing how he’s so down he’s on the ground had me super excited about all the new music that 1990 was going to bring.  Always great to hear from you, The Beatles, no matter what the decade!

“I’m Down”

You tell lies thinkin’ I can’t see
You can’t cry ’cause yo laughin’ at me, I’m down
(I’m really doooooown)
I’m down (down on the ground)
I’m down (I’m really dooooown)
How can you laugh
When ya know I’m down
(How can you laugh) when you know I’m down

Man buys ring, woman throws it away
Same old thing happen every day, I’m down
(I’m really doooooown)
I’m down (down on the ground)
I’m down (I’m really dooooown)
How can you laugh
When ya know I’m down
(How can you laugh) when you know I’m down

<awesome The Beatles jam>

We’re all alone and there nobody else
She will still moan, “Keep yo hands to yoself”, I’m down
(I’m really doooooown)
Oh, babe, I’m down (down on the ground)
I’m down (I’m really dooooown)
How can you laugh
When ya know I’m down
(How can you laugh) when you know I’m down
Waaaaaaw!

Carry on, John!

<awesome The Beatles jam>

Oh, baby, you know I’m down (I’m really doooown)
I guess I’m down (I’m really doooown)
I’m down on the ground (I’m really dooooown)
I’m down (I’m really doooown)
Ah, baby, I’m upside-down

Oh yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
(I’m really down)
