Radio 57, side A, track 5: “Born To Run” by Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen - Born To RunOh, Bruce Springsteen, seriously?  Seriously, Bruce Springsteen?  How can one man be so amazing?!?!  I’ve listened to this song before, of course, but I’ve never really LISTENED to it, you know?  What a beautiful goddamn song!  I don’t know nothin’ about Hemis or chrome or fuel injection, but when I listen to this one I can sure as hell pretend.  That’s all I’ve got today, Bruce Springsteen, because the longer I sit here typing, the longer it’ll be before I can listen to this song again.

“Born To Run”

<awesome Bruce Springsteen jam>

In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream

At night we ride through mansions’a glory in suicide machines

Sprung from cages on Highway 9, chrome-wheeled, fuel-injected and steppin’ out over the line

Ohhhhh, baby, this town rips the bones from ya back, it’s a death trap
It’s a suicide rap, we gotta get out while we’re young

‘Cause tramps like us
Baby, we were born to ruuuuuuuun

Yes, girl, we were

Wendy, let me in, I wanna be yer friend, I wanna guard yer dreams’n visions

Just wrap yer legs ’round these velvet rims and strap yer hands ‘cross my engines

Together we could break this trap, we’ll run ’til we drop
Baby, we’ll never go back

Ohhhhh, will ya walk with me out on the wire
‘Cause, baby, I’m just a scared’n lonely rider, but I gotta know how it feels

I wanna know if love is wild, babe, I wanna know if love is reeeeeeal

Oh, can ya show me

<awesome Bruce Springsteen jam>

Beyond the palace, Hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard

Girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors, and the boys try ta look so hard

The amusement park rises bold’n stark, kids’re huddled on the beach in the mist

I wanna die with ya, Wendy, on the street tonight in an everlastin’ kiss

<awesome Bruce Springsteen jam>

One, two, three, four
The highway’s jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive

Everybody’s out on the run tonight, but there’s no place left ta hide

Together, Wendy, we can live with the sadness, I’ll love you with all of the madness in my soul

Ohhhh, some day, girl, I don’t know when

We’re gonna get ta that place where we really wanna go and we’ll walk in the sun
But ’til then, tramps like us
Baby, we were born to ruuuuuun

Aw, honey, tramps like us
Baby, we were born to ruuuuuun
Come on, Wendy, tramps like us
Baby, we were born to ruuuuuuuuuun

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

Whoa oh oh oh ohhhhh

Whoa oh oh ohhhhhhh

Whoa oh oh ohhhh

Whoa oh oh oh oh ohhhhhh

  1. I love me some Boss! I lyrics to Dancing in the Dark pushed me out of my front door and onto the road on my first big travel expedition.
