Radio 58, side A, track 1: “The Deeper The Love” by Whitesnake

The Deeper The Love - WhitesnakeOh, Whitesnake, there’s always something so satisfying about starting a brand new tape.  Taking a fresh tape out of the 8-pack that your mom bought for you at Shopko or Pamida, unwrapping it, hearing the sound of the cellophane crinkling. . .now that I think about it, it’s actually very similar to unwrapping a new pack of cigarettes.  Same shape and everything.  Same optimism that this pack is going to bring you happiness.  Difference being you don’t get that sweet smell of tobacco when you open it, and you also won’t get lung cancer from using the contents.  Plus, once you fill that tape up, you ARE guaranteed happiness with the bonus of not smelling like a bingo parlor and not having teeth the same shade as Big Bird.  I know what I’m talking about, Whitesnake, since I was addicted to both recording music onto cassettes and nicotine.  Luckily, I kicked the cigarette habit.  And luckier still, I never kicked the habit of recording off the radio, which is why today we get to listen to an awesome song by you.

Since I had finally had the forethought to start writing down the dates when I made my recordings, I started this new tape on March 8 of 1990.  Meaning I didn’t record anything in February at all.  I looked up what was happening on March 8 and all I found from a quick search involved the Zodiac Killer.  So let’s not dwell on that.  Instead, let’s celebrate this brand new tape and this great song that I recorded on it.  I peeked ahead, and I don’t want to oversell it, but Radio 58 ended up being a pretty awesome collection of music.  In fact, by the end of this tape, the course of my life would be forever altered, musically speaking.  And what better way to kick off such an important tape than with a song talking about deep love and strong emotions and deep devotion, all the things I feel about my music collection.

“The Deeper The Love”

<awesome Whitesnake jam>

When I look back
On everything I’ve done I know you must have cried a river of tears

Choo were there
When I was feeling low
To walk me through my darkest fears

So when the sun goes down
And those nights grow colder
I will be there
Lookin’ over ya shouldeeer

And the deeper the love

The stronger the emotion

And the stronger the love

The deeper the devotion

Ooooooo

There were times
I almost letcha go
When I thought I needed to break free

Choo were there
To whisper in my ear, “Why don’tchoo share your dreams with me?”

So when the sun goes down
And those nights are growing colder
I will be there
Lookin’ over ya shouldeeer

And the deeper the love

The stronger the emotion

And the stronger the love

The deeper the devotion

I don’t mind
Whatcha doin’ to me
I don’t mind
‘Cause yer all I can see
I don’t mind
Baby, ya mean the world to me

When the sun goes down
And those nights are growing colder
I will be there

Lookin’ over
Ya shoulder

Baby, baby, baby

<awesome Whitesnake jam>

So when the sun goes down
And those nights are growin’ colder
I will be there

Lookin’ over
Ya shoulder

‘Cause the deeper the love

The stronger the emooootion
