Radio 59, side B, track 2: “Without You” by Motley Crue

Without You - Motley CrueOh, Motley Crue, since I first recorded this song off the radio, I’d always thought the lyrics were “Without you in my life, I slowly will deny. . .”  But I was wrong.  As usual.  It was actually “Without you in my life, I’d slowly wilt and die. . .”  Makes more sense.  And how poetic, too, huh?  Seriously, Motley Crue, first it’s Faster Pussycat bringing me a case of the sads, and then here you are with this sweet and dare I say tender love song where you’re actually comparing yourselves to a dying flower.  I don’t even know what to think anymore.  Plus you’re singing about growing old with someone?  Are you the same band who sing about skydiving naked from an aeroplane?  Songs like this just confuse me.  As much as I love them, and I love this song, don’t get me wrong, but how to reconcile all the mushy mushiness of this song with all the bad-assness of songs like “Dr. Feelgood”?  Could it be possible that you don’t care that I’m confused by all this?  I think we know the answer to that, Motley Crue.  I will say that while I can’t say you’re the reason I’m alive or that without you I’d slowly wilt and die, or even that I’d slowly deny (whatever that means), I am happier that you’re in my life, even if I don’t know which one is the real Motley Crue.

“Without You”

<awesome Motley Crue jam>

Withoutchoo
There’s no change

My nights’n days’a grey

If I reached out and touched the rain
It just wouldn’t feel the same

Withoutchoo
I’d be lost

I’d slip down from the top

I’d slide down so low
Girl, you’d never, never know

Withoutchoo
Withoutchoo
A sailor lost at sea

Withoutchoo, womaaan
The world comes down on me

Withoutchoo
In my life

I slowly wilt’n die

But with you by my side
You’re the reason I’m alive

But with you in my life
You’re the reason I’m alive

But withoutchoo, withoutchoo

<awesome Motley Crue jam>

Withoutchoo
My hope is small

Let me be me all along

Let the fires rage inside
Knowin’ some day I’d grow strong

Withoutchoo
Withoutchoo
A sailor lost at sea

Withoutchoo, womaaan
The world comes down on me

Withoutchoo
In my life

I slowly wilt’n die

But with you by my side
You’re the reason I’m alive

But with you in my life
You’re the reason I’m alive

But withoutchoo, without yoooou

I could face a mountain
But I could never climb alone

I could start another day
But how many, just don’t know

You’re the reason the sun shines down and the nights
They don’t grow cold

Only you that I’ll hold when I’m young
Only you
As we grow old

<awesome Motley Crue jam>

Withoutchoo
In my life

I slowly wilt’n die

But with you by my side
You’re the reason I’m alive

But with you in my life
You’re the reason I’m alive

But withoutchoo, withoutchooooo
