Radio 59, side B, track 12: “Room At The Top” by Adam Ant

Adam Ant - Room At The TopOh, Adam Ant, now this is more like it!  I’ve been dragging all week, and frankly, the songs this week, while great and all, just weren’t doing it for me.  But then here you come with this excellent tune that I haven’t thought about in a couple decades or more and I’m immediately singing along to it because it’s like all those years between then and now never happened.  This was the first song I ever heard by you, Adam Ant, and I’ll be honest, I haven’t heard too many other ones by you since.  But I respect your singing talents for the mere fact that They Might Be Giants had a song called “XTC vs. Adam Ant”, so I knew that if They Might Be Giants were singing about you, obviously you had to be amazing.  After all, They Might Be Giants also introduced me to The Young Fresh Fellows, and they were fantastic.  Since I’m still kind of exhausted, the timeline of when I heard which song or when I was introduced to such and such a band is kind of all muddled together in my head, but that’s fine, because that’s just part of old age.  In fact, I’ll let you in on a little secret, Adam Ant.  It wasn’t my original intent when I first started this blog, but now, assuming the world hasn’t blown up or iced over or whatever else it might do in my lifetime, my assumption is that if I do happen to live to a ripe old age (doubtful, but life is funny.  Not ha-ha funny, but you get what I’m saying), and since I don’t have any kids, and let’s be honest, even if I did have kids, I’m very likely going to end up in a rest home spending my last days in a little room with an unpleasant roommate and sadness all around.  BUT, hopefully the internet will still be around and I’ll be able to get some cheap computer, and even if I can’t do anything else, I’m hoping against hope that I’ll be able to figure out how to get to this blog, because I’m just going to push Play on all the many track lists I’ve created and just lay back and listen to music for hours on end.  With headphones on, of course, since my roommate will probably be crankier than me.  And while yes, that sounds a little depressing, spending my final months listening to awesome music like this is not a bad way to go.
