Radio 60, side A, track 7: “Vogue” by Madonna

Madonna - VogueOh, Madonna, I don’t know that I have that much to write about this one.  It’s not that I don’t like this one.  How can you not?  And I may have been one of the few kids my age who actually knew the movie stars you were singing about.  But I wasn’t much of a dancer, which hasn’t changed, and this song is all about moving and striking a pose.

Oh, I struck poses, but if you’ve seen my high school pictures, you know how that turned out.  And sure, I get that this song is all about inner beauty, and maybe I’d actually believe that, Madonna, if any of the people in your music video had an ounce of fat on them or were one iota unattractive.  It does bring to mind the most recent episode of “The Amazing Race” I just watched where those two douchebags from Texas (seriously, the one guy is actively trying to sound like Matthew McConaughey.  That’s a capital DB fo sho), who’ve been espousing their Christianity all season yet still trash talking, gloating, and, just like Jesus would do, competing for a million dollars.  Anyway, DBs 1 and 2 suddenly found religion when the two pretty cheerleaders needed help.  And all four of them can’t stop gushing about how amazing each other is.  Blech, Madonna, just blech.  And I’m sure if you were “lucky” enough to get into a conversation with them about this subject, they would be all like “Oh, totally, beauty’s definitely where you find it.  All right all right all right.  Jesus saves.”  But of course, they’re talking about finding beauty where beauty’s at, not actually looking for it beyond the pose. . .

Well, what do you know, I guess I had more to write about than I thought I did.  Obviously, my jealousy of the beautiful people is poking through, Madonna, and I’m not even going to pretend that I’m any better about it.  I’m just saying, if you really believed what you were singing, your music video would just be you in some sweatpants and no makeup with some guys like me gyrating around you.

Yeah.  Didn’t think so, Madonna.

“Vogue”

<awesome Madonna jam>

What you lookin’ at (vogue, vogue, vogue)

Look around
Everywhere ya turn is heartache
It’s everywhere thatcha go (look around)
You try
Everything you can to escape
The pain of life thatchoo know (life thatchoo know)
When all else fails and you long to be
Somethin’ better than you are today

I know a place where you can get away
It’s called a dance floor
And here’s what it’s for, so
Come on
Vogue (vogue)

Letcho body move to the music (moooove to the music) hey, hey, hey
Come on
Vogue (vogue)

Letcho body go with the flow
You know you can do it

All you need
Is your own imagination
So use it, that’s what it’s for (that’s what it’s for)
Go inside
For your finest inspiration
Your dreams will open the door (open up the door)
It makes no difference if you’re black or white

If you’re a boy or a girl

If the music’s pumpin’ it will give you new life
You’re a superstar
Yes, that’s what you are, you know it
Come on
Vogue (vogue)

Letcho body move to the music (moooove to the music) hey, hey, hey

Come on
Vogue (vogue)
(Vogue)
Letcho body go with the flow
You know you can do it

Beauty’s where you find it

Not just where you

Bump and grind it

Soul is in the musical
That’s where I feel so
Beautiful

Magical

Life’s a ball, so
Get up on the dance floor
