Happy Turkey Day!

mst3kNo, this isn’t about Thanksgiving.  Well, it kinda is.  Every once in awhile I feel the need to tell y’all about a crowdfunding campaign that has captured my imagination, and this one is VERY near to my heart.  One of my most beloved TV shows ever is “Mystery Science Theater 3000”.  When I was a kid, Comedy Central had  “Turkey Day”, a day-long marathon of MST3K episodes.  And I just discovered that Turkey Day continues to this day.  Which I will be partaking in, of course.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because MST3K is coming back!  My beloved Joel Hodgson has started a campaign to revive it, and he’s already raised almost 3 million bucks (of which I’ve contributed a paltry sum).  The ultimate goal is 5.5 million for a full season of 12 episodes, which will hopefully also send a message to TV execs somewhere (Netflix, perhaps?) that this is a show worth getting behind.  I’d not realized that Joel’s original intent was for MST3K to be like “Doctor Who” in that it would be an ongoing show with different hosts and Mads and voices for Tom and Crow as the years went on.  For example, Felicia Day is going to be the new Mad, which is pretty much all kinds of awesome.

The other thing that I’ve come to appreciate about MST3K is that it’s an all-ages show.  Despite their verbal barbs and slings and arrows, there’s ultimately an innocence around Joel and Mike and Crow and Tom and my beloved TV’s Frank that makes it the kind of show you can enjoy with the whole family.  So, this is a long-winded way of saying if you’ve got a little extra cash and have a soft spot for the crew of the Satellite Of Love, maybe head on over to their Kickstarter page and show them some love on this Turkey Day.  It stinks!
