Radio 61, side B, track 1: “Up All Night” by Slaughter

Slaughter - Up All NightOh, Slaughter, now THIS is my jam!  This song represents the main fight my wife and I regularly get into.  I’m all about staying up until the wee hours of the morning and she’s all about a reasonable bed time.  She just doesn’t understand the night owls like you and me, Slaughter.

Okay, well, let’s be clear.  When you guys talk about being up all night, you’re actually leaving the house and doing interesting things.  I just want to stay up and read comic books.  Maybe watch the episodes of “Doctor Who” I need to get caught up on.  And this hasn’t changed much since my days in high school when I’d stay up late reading the latest Stephen King novel, after which I couldn’t sleep mostly just because I was scared of whatever was obviously lurking under my bed ready to drag me down to the pits of hell as soon as I shut my eyes.  So that’s totally on me.

And I picture when you’re sleeping all day, it’s probably sprawled out on a nice bed with a groupie or two who were up all night with you.  For me, it’s lying unconscious on the couch with two or three dogs and/or cats laying on top of me.  My god, Slaughter, I do love naps.  I took two of them yesterday.  One almost immediately after I woke up, where I moved to a recliner and fell back asleep.  And then another luxurious one on the couch.  Frankly, Slaughter, I prefer naps over going to bed at night.  I don’t know what it is.  Don’t get me wrong, I love sleeping in all its incarnations, but there’s something about a nap on a couch that is one of the best things ever.  It feels like you’re getting away with something or something.  And taking a nap when there’s a chill in the air?  If there is a heaven, I hope that’s what it is, just me and a few pets and an afghan that my grandma crocheted for me years ago wrapped around me on a just barely comfortable couch.  And your music playing (softly) in the background.

“Up All Night”

Up all night
Sleep all day

Up all night
Sleep all day

<awesome Slaughter jam>

When evening comes
I am alive
I love to prowl around in the streeeeeeets

It’s the moonlight controls my mind
Now I’ve got the power to speeeak, yeah

(Awake from dusk to dawn)
Watching the city lights (stars are shining down)
They’ll be shining down on you and I (and when the morning comes)
Holdjoo ’til the morning light

Everybody sing it now
Up all night
Sleep all day

Up all night
Sleep all day
That’s right

<awesome Slaughter jam>

Drivin’ down the boulevard
All alone
The neon signs are callin’ your naaaame

Find me in the corner havin’ the time of my life

Think you’d wanna do the saaaaame

(Awake from dusk to dawn)
Watching the city lights (stars are shining down)
They’ll be shining down on you and I (and when the morning comes)
Holdjoo ’til the morning light

Everybody sing it now
Up all night
Sleep all day

Up all night
Sleep all day
That’s right

Up all night
Sleep all day
Come on, come on
Up all night
Ah, maybe we can just stay up
Twenty four hours a daaaay

<awesome Slaughter jam>

(Awake from dusk to dawn)
Watching the city lights (stars are shining down)
They’ll be shining down on you and I (and when the morning comes)
Holdjoo ’til the morning light

Everybody sing it now
Up all night
Sleep all day

Up all night
Sleep all day
Come on, come on

Up all night
Sleep all day
That’s right

Up all night
Sleep all day

Up all night
