Oh, Depeche Mode, how I love you so. Probably won’t be dating you, though. Just saying. Listening to this song, this AMAZING song, reminds me that I have to listen to “Violator” all the way through one of these days, and also that maybe you and I need to have a conversation about infidelity. Because I THINK what you’re saying in this song is “Look, clearly you’re going to cheat. It is what it is. But I don’t want to know about it.” And clearly whoever you’re singing this to is a repeat offender. Or maybe you’re singing it to yourself. I don’t know. All I do know is that “policy of truth” is sang derisively, i.e. a policy of truth may not be the best strategy in a relationship. I don’t know about all that, Depeche Mode. This ain’t that kind of blog. I do know that if you would have explained that to me when I recorded this off the radio, I would have been extremely confused and maybe even a little horrified. Grown-ups stuff is hard. But that’s all beside the point. Wherever this song falls on my ethic-meter, the important thing is that it’s a kick-ass song, just like every other one of your songs. And dat’s da truth!
