Radio 68, side B, track 7: “Heat Street promo”

interviewOh, KISD FM, you know what’s a bad idea?  Asking “people on the street” what they think.  Even worse, asking drunk people on the street what they think.  Obviously you had some poor schmuck cruising the local Applebee’s and Chili’s to get folks’ reactions to your dumb questions.  Guess what you got?  Dumb answers.  One of the reasons I don’t watch the news, one of the MANY reasons, is because there’s invariably a shot of some dumb ass giving their opinion about the news story.

I think I can pinpoint where my derision comes from.  The summer after my sophomore year in high school, our high school and half the town where my grandparents and several classmates lived was flattened by a tornado, the biggest one in the country that year.  It was a pretty big deal.  One of my classmates was on “Good Morning America” or one of those morning shows but none of us saw it because the electricity was off.

Anyway, at some point there was a news story about our high school and what we were going to do if they permanently closed it, and they “interviewed” one of the girls what she thought about it.  Except that she didn’t even go to that school!  She went to the Christian school down the hill!!!!  You call that journalism, KISD FM?!?!?

Now that I think about it, that girl ended up marrying the guy who was on that morning show.  I don’t know what that means.  Probably it means I need to get over it.  But I won’t, because people are stupid and we don’t need to know what they think about things. Says the man writing a blog.
