Oh, Depeche Mode, it’s a very good omen that we’ve already gotten two songs by you off of BOB. This was probably my favorite of your songs as a kid, even though I only taped it off the radio once. That chorus gets me every time. As a kid, the idea that I could hold someone in my arms that was all I ever wanted or needed was very attractive to me. As I was looking at some interpretations of the lyrics just now, there’s also a chance this could be talking about heroin addiction. Having just finished watching “The Wire” and also in the middle of reading “The Corner”, that makes me very sad. I’ll stick with my original interpretation as a teenaged farm boy. Those interpretations tend to be much cheerier.
