Oh, Hall & Oates, I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since we’ve talked! Last time you were here, we were saying good-bye because it was the last song I recorded by you off the radio as a kid. But happily you’re back, and so now I can say hello. Or welcome back. Or both. Frankly, I’m shocked that it’s taken 10 “tapes” for y’all to show up on BOB. There’s no way that this is going to be the only song by you to show up on here. No way.
Now here’s the thing, Hall & Oates. I don’t know how I know this song. I mean, I know it, but this is another one of those that I’m aware of and can sing all the lyrics to but I have no recollection of ever having heard it before now. So bizarre, Hall & Oates.
And while I’ve written on here that I’m not a big fan of remakes, it was actually a remake of this one that made me appreciate it more. Several years ago, one of my co-workers suggested I watch a YouTube video of a band performing this one while they were driving around in their van. Frankly, it was amazing. Like, I watched it on repeat for quite awhile because the conceit of it was fantastic, plus it sounded really frigging amazing. As I’m writing this, I don’t know why in the hell I didn’t immediately track down their other music. I’m going to do that right now, Hall & Oates. Welcome back, my friends, and I hope we get to talk again real soon.
