Radio XXVI, side B, track 13: “Walking Away” by Information Society

Information Society - Walking AwayOh, Information Society, what a great way to open a song:  “It is useless to resist us.”  I’ve already gushed about how excited I was to realize after all these years that you guys were sampling some Spock, and it only makes sense that you’d also sample Kirk as well.  And thanks to Wikipedia, I also now know that you also sampled a wee bit’o Scotty, too.  I know what you’re wondering, Information Society.  What’s my favorite “Star Trek” series?  I know you’ve been dying to find out, and this seems like an appropriate time to talk about it.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched all of them.  I’m not quite halfway through “Deep Space Nine” and I’ve still got all of “Voyager” to get through, so this is only a partially informed opinion, but I gotta tell you, as sacrilegious as it may sound, I really think that “Enterprise” is my favorite, and Archer’s my favorite captain.  That’s right.  I just said that.

See, when I decided to start watching “Star Trek”, I did it in chronological order.  And by chronological order, I mean within “Star Trek” continuity.  Which means that “Enterprise” was first even though it was last.  If you understand what I’m saying.  And I’ll admit, it started out a little clunky, but by the time they cancelled it way too early, it had hit its stride.  And Scott Bakula as a starship captain?  Duh.  Of course he’s my favorite.

Don’t get me wrong, Information Society, I respect all the other series and all the other captains, but Kirk was way too reckless with himself and his crew, Picard was a pompous, pretentious old grump, and I don’t know enough about Sisko and Janeway to make an informed opinion.  But Archer, he was a man who really was boldly going where no man had gone before, and he had to make things work without the Prime Directive.  Plus he had a beagle.  And I have a beagle.  So we’re practically the same person.  Except for the fact that he’s ruggedly handsome and courageous.

Whatever, Information Society, I like what I like, including this song.  I’m off to watch some “Enterprise”. . .

“Walking Away”

“It is useless to resist us”

<awesome Information Society intro>

Cold winds blow around me and I can’t help but think of you

All the things we wanted
All the things we had to do

Wrap yourself around me
We can steal away sometime

Your whispers surround me
But it’s only in my mind

‘Cause I’m walking away from, walking away from things in my own past

Walking away from, walking away from things that just won’t last

<awesome Information Society jam>

You got what you wanted, but you can’t help but think of me

All the things you wanted
All the things you got for free

One thing to remember
Is that I have feelings, too

I surely would have closed my eyes if I had known the real you

‘Cause I’m walking away from, walking away from things in my own past

Walking away from, walking away from things that just won’t last

And I’m walking away from, walking away from things that move too fast

<awesome Information Society jam>

“Let’s go see”

“Let’s go see”

“Let’s go see”
“Let’s let’s let’s let’s go see”

“Let’s go see”

“Let’s go see”

“Let’s go see”

“Let’s go see”

<awesome Information Society jam>

‘Cause I’m walking away from, walking away from things in my own past

Walking away from, walking away from things that just won’t last

And I’m walking away from, walking away from things that move too fast
