Radio XVIII, side A, track 9: “You’re My World” by Nick Heyward

Nick Heyward - You're My WorldOh, Nick Heyward, I’d be the first to tell you that I really don’t know that much about music.  Yes, I know, Nick Heyward, that seems pretty ridiculous since I have what is for all intents and purposes a blog devoted specifically to music.  But the thing is, Nick Heyward, the only music I’m really familiar with, besides a few specific musicians and bands like They Might Be Giants, Ben Folds, and Corn Mo, is the music on my tapes off the radio.  And even then I’m not always real clear on stuff.  I provide that long-winded caveat, Nick Heyward, because I’m going to say a few things that are probably completely wrong music-wise, so I felt it best for you to understand that I’m not an expert or anything.

But what I wanted to say, Nick Heyward, is that this song felt like the last gasp of the New Wave.  I didn’t really know what the New Wave was when I first heard this, and to tell you the truth, I’m still a little fuzzy on it, but this song felt like it could have been plucked from earlier in the decade and transplanted right onto my radio station in 1988.  It was like one final reminder of all the good times that had been had during the 80’s as the world was moving on to other genres and sounds.  I’d forgotten about this song, Nick Heyward, but it holds up really well, and it still sounds awesome and it’s fun to sing along to so whether it’s New Wave or whatever, whatever you want to classify it as, it’s a damn good song, and that’s all that really matters, isn’t it?

“You’re My World”

I wonder
Where you are
I always want you back (want you back)

You noticed
What we said
When we stood back to back

For I need you now
Your little lovin’ ways
All the things you say
Your smile upon your face
Your little perfect mouth
Oh I can taste your lips
In the age of miracles
I can tell you this

You’re my world
You’re my everything
And we got to make it work and we got so much to win

You’re my world
You’re my everything
Oh we got to make it work ’cause we got so much to win

Somebody
They told me
That you still talk of me

You know that
I want you
You know you can lean on me

Come on lean on me
Come on walk with me
Come on take my hand
We could spend the night
We could talk too much
We could kiss too much
I waited oh so long for your tender touch

You’re my world
You’re my everything
And we got to make it work and we got so much to win

You’re my world
You’re my everything
Oh we got to make it work ’cause we got so much to win

Can’t you hear my heaaaart

Can’t you hear my heaaaart

<awesome Nick Heyward jam>

And the beat goes on
And the world will turn
And the time we take
Is the time we learn
And the things I miss about the way you kiss
You’re my one concern
I can tell you this

You’re my world
You’re my everything
And we got to make it work and we got so much to win

You’re my world
You’re my everything
Oh we got to make it work ’cause we got so much to win

And I love your mouth
And I want your kiss
And I need your touch
I can tell you this

You’re my world
You’re my everything
And we got to make it work and we got so much to win

You’re my world
You’re my everything
Oh we got to make it work ’cause we got so much to win

You are my world

You are my world

You are my world

You are my world

You’re my wooooorld
You are my world

You are my world

You’re my woooooorld
You are my world
