Radio XLVIII, side B, track 9: “Science Fiction Double Feature” by Richard O’Brien

Science Fiction Double FeatureOh, Richard O’Brien, I guess I’m just never getting away from you guys, am I?  It’s been over two years ago since we last talked about my travails with “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, and I almost forgot that I’d recorded another song off the radio from that soundtrack.  In real time, it was about a year since that last song, since this was a part of the annual “Monster Hits Weekend”, which I adored.  And I adored this song, Richard O’Brien.  I still do.  Back then, I didn’t know it was a guy who was singing this.  Not that that matters at all (and in fact recent episodes of “The Bold and The Beautiful” are making me rethink my preconceptions about gender).  And back then, I had no idea all the freaky-deaky that went along with both this song and any and all things to do with the movie.  And I can’t believe that not only did I date one girl who was a hardcore “Rocky” fan, I ended up marrying another girl who was part of one of the ad-hoc stage casts for the midnight viewings where she grew up.  Personally, I think she was a little too young to be participating, but I think she was watching “Road House” at the age of 6 or something, so I’m guessing the adventures of Brad and Janet were pretty tame by then.

Anyway, it’s probably time to embrace you and your friends, Richard O’Brien.  I love all the music, I love everyone in the cast, and while I don’t know if I have ever actually watched the movie from beginning to end, what I have seen was pretty enjoyable.  But when we do embrace, it’s gonna be butts out with a lot of space between our groin areas.  I don’t want you getting any ideas, Richard O’Brien. . .
